It's the State Historical Society of Missouri's 118th birthday!

May is an important month in SHSMO history. The State Historical Society of Missouri was founded by the members of the Missouri Press Association on May 26, 1898, and it was established as a trustee of the state of Missouri a year later on May 4, 1899.

Simply stated, SHSMO was created to preserve Missouri's heritage, and the organization's mission is to collect, protect, and share Missouri's history and culture. Over its first century, the State Historical Society has done just that by building a nationally significant repository of newspapers dating to 1808. Titles from all 114 Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis are preserved as well as an evolving collection of maps, personal correspondence, rare books, family papers, and photographs.

You can be a part of continuing this important mission. Help ensure the second century of State Historical Society of Missouri.
