Social sciences and the humanities have many branches. The State Historical Society of Missouri's Historic Missourians website has entire categories dedicated to leaders and activists, politicians, and scientists featuring 50 biographies complete with rich images, artifacts, and primary sources.
Manuscripts
The State Historical Society of Missouri's manuscript collections contain papers of individual practitioners in the social sciences and humanities fields; records of related organizations; and research data. Social sciences and humanities in Missouri include research and education in many academic fields, including psychology, sociology, anthropology, English, and history, as well as organizations promoting the study of these fields. Examples of these collections include the New Santa Fe Historical Society Records, organizational records and research materials concerning south Kansas City, and the Central Slavic Council Records, materials from a regional association focused on Soviet and Eastern European studies.

The vertical files contain magazine and newspaper clippings, handwritten information donated by patrons, bibliographies, programs, brochures, flyers, and other materials that, by reason of their physical formats, cannot be placed on the shelves with books. SHSMO's Columbia Research Center has vertical files for several University of Missouri departments in specific fields in the social sciences and humanities, as well as information on individuals and organizations associated with fields in the social sciences and humanities.
