National History Day in Missouri

NHD Students

National History Day in Missouri (NHDMO) is a unique opportunity for middle and high school students to explore the past in a creative, hands-on way by producing a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website on a topic of their choosing.

The State Historical Society of Missouri proudly administers National History Day in Missouri. Over 6,000 students participate in the program each year, with nearly 600 advancing to the state contest at the University of Missouri in April.

Through the National History Day in Missouri program, SHSMO transforms the way kids view history. Students learn about their world and themselves by creating hands-on research projects and competing in successive local, state, and national contests.

"The impact on students is tremendous and well worth the investment from the Society and from teachers and parents. Students build confidence, develop their critical thinking, and learn important communication skills. National History Day in Missouri prepares them for college and beyond."
Gary Kremer, Executive Director, SHSMO
