Audio and Video

Audio and video recordings can be captured on many different mediums. Examples of these held by WHMC-C include: reel to reel video and audio tapes; audio cassette tapes; VHS, 3/4 inch and other video cassette tapes; CDs; vinyl records; wire recordings; etc. Popular entertainers, folk musicians, historical events or reenactments, oral histories, political speeches, and lectures are some of the types of information captured on audio and video materials.

Oral History Recordings

Normally, a living person is not considered a primary source, but depending on what a person has witnessed in his or her life, they may be able to explain intimate details about a particular historical event. Staff at WHMC-C actively record and collect oral histories. To learn more about these sources, please consult the State Historical Society of Missouri, Oral History Program.
