What are Archival Materials?

Generally, archival materials are the records and papers of an organization, institution, or business. These include the records of clubs, social groups, associations, special interest groups, businesses, projects, political parties, etc.

Lewis J. and Lynn Lady Bellardo in A Glossary for Archivists, Manuscript Curators, and Records Managers (Chicago: Society of American Archivists, 1992) describe archival materials as "the documents created or received and accumulated by a person or organization in the course of the conduct of affairs, and preserved because of their continuing value."
