INTRODUCTION
The collection contains business correspondence, land contracts, court appeals,
share-holding certificates, payment receipts, record books, warranty deeds, and other documents produced by the Conley-Myers
Bank and Gillespy & Conley Lawyers through their real estate transactions in Missouri and Texas.
DONOR INFORMATION
The Conley-Myers Bank and Gillespy & Conley Lawyers, Records were donated to the State Historical
Society of Missouri by H.H. Trice on 6 February 1967 (Accession no. 445).
INSTITUTIONAL SKETCH
The director of Conley-Myers Bank, founded in
Columbia, Missouri, was William T. Conley. The bank’s cashier was S.M. Myers. The bank dealt primarily with the selling and buying
of land, as well as housing transactions in several counties in central Missouri.
The Gillespy & Conley Lawyers office, located in Columbia, Missouri, was operated by Milton Robards Conley (1873-1918), who
was appointed a notary public for the Boone County in 1918. Further information about Milton Conley can be found in the Conley-

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Conley-Myers Bank and Gillespy & Conley Lawyers
collection represents the records created by these two institutions in their business dealings during the first two decades of the
20th century. The records are mainly real estate trade documents, concerning the buying and selling land and housing, and stock-
sharing in different enterprises in Missouri and Texas. The documents have been arranged into two series: Conley-Myers Bank
Records and Gillespy & Conley Lawyers Records.
The Conley-Myers Bank series contains bank correspondence from 1911 to 1920; meeting minutes and articles of incorporation
for the bank; trust deeds concerning land transactions in central Missouri; and stock certificates, meeting minutes, and legal
documents relating to the McBaine Land Company, Lonoke Land Trust, Conley Building Company, and Alps and Woodside Land,
Farming and Plantation Company.
The series also includes warranty deeds, sales contracts, and other documents relating to transactions made by Conley-Myers
Bank and their partner, Orange Hill (Texas) Land Company in both Missouri and Texas as well as maps of Wayne and Washington
Counties in Missouri and Orange Hill, Texas. This series has been arranged by type of document.
The Gillespy & Conley Lawyers Records series makes up the bulk of the collection. It contains various legal documents, deeds,
contracts, correspondence, appeals and suits, and court decisions. The documents have been grouped alphabetically by case
name. Where they were preserved, original envelopes with case names are included with the corresponding documents.
