SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The papers of the Ford, English, Cunningham and related families include family correspondence, photographs and postcards, genealogical, school, and miscellaneous material. The papers are arranged into five series:
FOLDER LIST
The Correspondence series consists of letters written among family members. Many of the letters were written in 1918 and 1919, by Herschel to his mother while he was with the Army in North Carolina and later France and Germany. The letters discuss living conditions, descriptions of airplanes, individuals he came in contact with, the Spanish Flu (Influenza), his questions regarding conditions at home, and his deep concern for his family, especially his father, who was ill at the time. There are a series of letters from L.B. Ford, Jr., also expressing his hope that the family is well. Other letters are from the Ford sisters, related family members and friends to either Herschel, their mother, Lula, or various other family and friends, discussing family matters, illnesses, children, and business. This series is arranged chronologically.
