BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

The Dunlap family settled in Virginia in the 1700s and the family patriarch, James Carnachan Dunlap fought in the Revolutionary War with the 6th Pennsylvania Battalion. The family moved west to Kentucky and later Missouri. Members of the family fought on both sides of the Civil War.

The creator of these records, Clarke Dunlap, was born in Licking, Missouri, on 8 January 1929. He served in the Korean War and was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency from 1956 to 1961. He taught geography, geology, and political science at various colleges and universities and received his Ph.D. in geomorphology from Louisiana State University in 1990. He also wrote a book on using remote sensing to map the Wilderness Road his great-great-grandfather used to migrate to Kentucky in 1785.

In 1979, he was paralyzed after receiving an influenza vaccination and founded the National Liberation Front for Handicapped Civil Rights in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for which he served as director.
