INTRODUCTION

Interviews with Missouri newspaper people regarding the history and evolution of newspapers in Missouri. The records include audio cassettes, transcripts, logs, notes, correspondence, and related ephemera.

PROJECT SKETCH

The Missouri Newspapers Oral History Project is a regular, on-going project conducted by the State Historical Society of Missouri. The project, which began in 1996, seeks to document the history and development of Missouri newspapers through the collection of oral history interviews with experienced newspaper people. Topics and issues addressed include the role(s) played by local newspapers and newspaper people in community life; careers of important newspaper people; historical and ongoing technological, occupational, and philosophical changes in the newspaper business; and major news events and issues covered by news people.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Missouri Newspapers Oral History Project Records consist of oral interviews on audio cassettes, transcripts and/or audio logs of the interviews, notes, correspondence, and ephemeral material related to interviewees and their newspapers. The cassettes are arranged chronologically; the transcripts and tapes logs are arranged in the same order as the cassettes.
