Krauskopf attended law school at U.C.L.A from 1954-1955 and graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1957. She gained admittance to the Ohio bar in 1958, to the Colorado bar in 1961, and to the Missouri bar in 1969.

Krauskopf served as an instructor at The Ohio State University College of Law from 1957-1959 and earned a promotion to Assistant Professor in 1959. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Joan Miday Krauskopf papers include correspondence, articles, and informational literature related to the Equal Rights Amendment and to women's rights issues from 1970 to 1982. The collection is divided into three series:

The Equal Rights Amendment series contains folders on various topics arranged in alphabetical order that relate to the women's rights movement and to efforts to pass the Equal Rights Amendment in Missouri and in the U.S. Congress. Correspondents include state legislators, legal colleagues like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and national figures like U.S. Senator Birch Bayh (the ERA sponsor). The bulk of the series consists of brochures and magazine and newspaper articles expressing opinions for and against the ERA. Krauskopf testified before the Missouri legislature from 1973-1977 when the ERA came to a vote. Copies of her testimonies, correspondence, and articles/statements appear throughout the topical folders.

The Professional series contains materials organized alphabetically by topic which relate to Krauskopf's legal career. Present are materials from legal seminars, meetings, conferences, and miscellaneous organizations. Krauskopf served on the Family Law Committee of the Missouri Bar Association and on its Subcommittees on Substance, on the Uniform Marriage and Divorce Act, and on the Study to Specific Statutory Changes. Krauskopf was considered a potential nominee for Judge to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. She was not recommended to President Jimmy Carter as a nominee and her statements regarding this process appear in the series.

Also in the Professional series are materials collected when she served as Convenor for the Missouri State Women's Meeting which took place in 1977 as part of International Women's Year. Items include her work with this meeting and with the Missouri State Coordinating Committee.

The University series is also arranged alphabetically by topic and reflects Krauskopf's activities as a faculty member with the University of Missouri School of Law. The syllabi and notes are present that she used in teaching a section of the Women's Studies Course on Women and the Law. There is also correspondence regarding her article "Sex Discrimination--Another Shibboleth Legally Shattered." The final portion of the series contains meeting minutes and materials relating to her service on the Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Women.
