INTRODUCTION

Papers of the Walter and Agatha Cox of Osceola, Missouri, consisting of yearbooks and minutes of the Twentieth Century Club, Osceola, 1901-1941; minutes and accounts for the Works Progress Administration County Relief and Reemployment Committee for St. Clair County, 1933-1935; and miscellany.

DONOR INFORMATION

The Cox Papers were donated to the State Historical Society of Missouri by the St. Clair County Historical Society on 20 October 1978 (SHS Accession No. 2204)

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The first five folders contain records of the Twentieth Century Club, a women's literary society. Agatha Daniel Cox was a member of this club, serving as critic, vice-president, treasurer, and yearbook and program committee member. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. E.M. Cox, was also a member and officer.

The records in folders 6-8 document relief projects sponsored by the Works Progress Administration in St. Clair County. Walter L. Cox chaired the county committee which determined who was employed and how much money was allocated for each project.
