ORGANIZATIONAL SKETCH
The Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges grew out of a meeting of Missouri probate judges
held at Jefferson City, 22 February 1914. A temporary organization was formed and a constitution and bylaws of the organization to be called the Missouri Probate Judges' Association were drafted by a committee. Judge Charles A. Leedy of Clinton County was elected President. Plans were made for an annual meeting to be held beginning 6 December 1915, at Sedalia, Missouri. Annual meetings were held thereafter with the exception of 1918 and the period
1921-1922.
For most of its history, the organization was called the Missouri Association of Probate Judges. Its name was changed to Missouri Association of Probate and Municipal Judges in 1970 and to the present name around 1978.
The organization's primary purposes were to enable probate judges to get to know their fellow judges better and to
promote improvements in the welfare of probate judges and the administration of probate law. Association members were active in the revision and reform of the Probate Code in the 1920s and the 1950s. The group was also active in
court cases involving the compensation of probate judges and their staffs and in lobbying for legislation before the Missouri legislature.
