f. 2032-2039Space Survey, 1942. In March 1941 the National Resources Planning Board established the Committee on the Conservation of Cultural Resources. This committee was charged by President Roosevelt with the preparation of plans for the protection against the hazards of war of material of cultural, scientific and historical importance in the possession of agencies of the federal government. In January 1942, similar planning and action was begun by curators of state, local and privately-owned cultural resources. Correspondence inquires into the available space in the state where such materials could be safely stored, such as county vaults and school vaults.
