INTRODUCTION
The Peter Mayo Papers consist of correspondence between Mayo and editorial cartoonists throughout the United States requesting original cartoons for his collection. There is also an audio tape of a Mayo interview.
DONOR INFORMATION
The Peter Mayo Papers were donated to the State Historical Society of Missouri by Peter Mayo on 10 November 1964 (SHS Accession No. 257).
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Peter Mayo was a Chicago architect who collected original works by editorial cartoonists throughout the country in the 1950s and 1960s.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Mayo Papers are arranged alphabetically by cartoonist's name with the exception of the last seven folders, which contain appraisals and miscellaneous correspondence related to the collection. The audio tape is a recording of an interview Mayo gave for the radio program, "Encounter." The cartoons Mayo collected are held at the State Historical Society of Missouri.
