ORGANIZATIONAL SKETCH
Grace Episcopal Church of Jefferson City, Missouri, was organized on November 30, 1842 during a meeting held in Jefferson City, Missouri. During this meeting, the group of men that gathered voted to organize a church that would adopt and recognize the beliefs of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States.
One of the first actions of the church, following their organization, was to construct a building for worship. The first church was built in 1842, with a second building constructed in 1898. In addition to serving as a place of worship, the first building also acted as a hospital on two separate occasions, first in 1857 for victims of cholera and second in 1862 for wounded soldiers.
After 1920 several groups were organized within the congregation. Organizations such as the Boy Scouts, the Men's Club, and St. Mary's Guild and St. Margaret's Guild, which were women's groups, provided social interaction in addition to the spiritual guidance provided by the church.
