INTRODUCTION
The Friedrich Wilhelm Ritter Papers contain photocopies of the papers of a German immigrant and the Ritter family of Shelby County, Missouri. The papers include obituaries, poetry, recipes, accounts, correspondence, naturalization documents, Ritter’s will, and other papers. The collection is in German and English.
DONOR INFORMATION
The Friedrich Wilhelm Ritter Papers were loaned for copying to the University of Missouri by Champ W. Ritter on 14 November 1990 (Accession No. 5000). The collection is part of the German Heritage Archives.
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Friedrich Wilhelm Ritter was born in 1815 in Prussia. He had been apprenticed as a weaver. He and his wife Augusta came with their children to Shelby County, Missouri, in 1848 to help build the Bethel Colony. They remained in Shelby County most of their lives where Ritter died in 1891.
