On November 8, 2008 contributors to Gladys Coggswell's book, Stories from the Heart: Missouri's African American Heritage gathered at the annual meeting of the Missouri Folklore Society in Hannibal for a program titled, "African American Stories in Missouri." Representing different regions of the state, the participants discussed the importance of the storytelling tradition in African American communities and the significance that storytelling has had and continues to have in the cultural lives of their families. WHMC-Columbia invites you to listen to these audio segments.

The "African American Stories in Missouri" program was sponsored by the Missouri Folklore Society, WHMC-Columbia, and The State Historical Society of Missouri in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council and with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
