June 10, 1872… Birthday of Guy B. Park

Guy B. Park, successful lawyer and a Missouri Governor, was born June 10, 1872 at Platte City, Missouri. After receiving his early education at Gaylord Academy, he entered the law school of the University of Missouri and graduated with a LL.B degree in 1896.

Upon graduation Park accepted a position in a law office in Denver, Colorado, remaining there for two and one-half years. In 1899 he returned to Platte County and the following year served as city attorney. During 1906-1910 he served two terms as prosecuting attorney for Platte County. In 1922 he was elected a member of the State Constitutional Convention.

Park became circuit judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit in 1923. Re-elected in 1928, he served until October 17, 1932, when he resigned to accept the Democratic nomination for governor. He was chosen by a convention following the death, a few weeks before the November election, of Francis Wilson, who had been the one selected at the August primary. Parks, both a political and personal friend of Wilson, was elected governor and served from 1933 to 1937. As governor he demonstrated his ability as a capable organizer and administrator.
